What's Actually Included in a Wedding Photography Package?

A clear breakdown of what a wedding photography package covers — edited photos, delivery timeline, usage rights, second shooter, engagement session, and what to ask about before signing.

What's Actually Included in a Wedding Photography Package?

Package names — Essentials, Signature, Luxury — don't mean much unless you know what's inside them. Here's what to verify before signing a contract.

Hours of Coverage

Every package specifies a number of hours. Know your timeline before comparing packages. A 6-hour package at $2,000 and an 8-hour package at $2,000 are very different values.

Number of Edited Photos

Most photographers deliver somewhere between 400–1,000 edited images depending on hours covered. Ask for the minimum, not the maximum. "Up to 1,000" with no floor tells you nothing.

Online Gallery Delivery

Your gallery should include full-resolution downloads — not web-optimized sizes. Confirm the resolution is print-quality (at minimum 3,000 pixels on the longest side). Ask how long the gallery link stays active.

Second Photographer

Some packages include one. Most charge separately. For weddings over 100 guests, two venues, or a timeline where getting-ready and ceremony overlap, a second photographer is worth serious consideration.

Engagement Session

Some packages bundle an engagement session. Some list it as an add-on. Value it at its standalone price ($400–$700 typically) when comparing packages.

Print Release

Do you receive a print release that allows you to print anywhere? Or are you required to order through the photographer's store? A full personal-use print release is standard at most professional price points.

Album

Albums are almost never included at base price. They're typically $600–$2,000 as add-ons. If you know you want an album, build that into your initial budget.

The Most Important Question

"What happens if you're sick on my wedding day?" A reputable photographer has a defined backup plan. Know what it is before you sign.
