What to Expect at Your Photo Session (From Inquiry to Final Gallery)
A step-by-step walkthrough of what the photo session process looks like — from your first inquiry through contract, session day, editing, and gallery delivery.
What to Expect at Your Photo Session (From Inquiry to Final Gallery)
If you've never worked with a professional photographer before, the process can feel opaque. Here's exactly what it looks like from start to finish.
Step 1: The Inquiry
You reach out — by form, email, or DM. You share your date, the type of session, your location, and any relevant details. I confirm availability and respond with information and next steps, usually within 24 hours.
Step 2: The Consultation
For weddings and larger events, we schedule a 20–30 minute call to talk through vision, venue, timeline, and logistics. For portrait sessions, this is often handled over email or a shorter call. This is where we align on style, must-have shots, and expectations.
Step 3: Contract and Retainer
Once we've confirmed the details, you receive a digital contract and invoice for the retainer. Signing the contract and paying the retainer secures your date. After that, the date is yours.
Step 4: Planning Communication
For weddings: I'll follow up with a detailed questionnaire about your timeline, vendor list, and priority shots. For portrait sessions: we confirm location, timing, and wardrobe notes.
Step 5: The Session Day
Arrive on time, bring what we discussed, and trust the process. The first 10 minutes of any session are warm-up. By the end, most people forget there's a camera.
Step 6: Editing
After the session, I begin editing. Wedding galleries take 4–6 weeks. Portrait sessions take 5–10 business days. Rush delivery is available for an additional fee.
Step 7: Gallery Delivery
You receive a private gallery link with your full-resolution images. Download the full archive. Share with family. Order prints if you'd like. The link stays active for 12 months.
